What does it mean?
Advertising whereby you pay when someone clicks on your advert. Generally speaking this is when your advert appears on the SERPs but PPC can also be when your advert appears in a list or on a non-search engine website. This latter type of PPC is called Display Advertising.
What should you aim for?
PPC is a very measurable form of advertising – you only pay when someone visits your website. The general aim of PPC is to pay less for your advertising than you make back from people buying your products.
